EM Survey For UST's

Recently, Delta Geophysics Inc. personnel performed a limited geophysical investigation using a Geonics EM-61 Mark II time domain metal detector. The site was an operating industrial facility. The survey was conducted to investigate the potential presence of underground storage tanks and subsurface anomalies within the property. The approximate size of the survey area was seven acres and the survey was completed in three days.

Specialized field procedures and adaptive filtering techniques applied to the areas reduced the near-surface influence allowing the detection of targets below the surface. Interactive target editing and grouping tools used by our geophysicist allowed for final target list refinement. Map making programs enabled the creation of this site map for visualization and display during final reporting. We have attached the site plot of the EM–61 survey, which includes anomalies hidden below the surface. This final map was refined by Delta’s geophysicist using sophisticated processing and mapping programs.

Below is the list of the anomalies that Delta marked on the site plot for this particular project.

Anomaly 1: This feature was examined with the GPR and was determined to be a buried sanitary manhole cover.

Anomaly 2: The high amplitude response at this location within the EM data indicates the presence of ferrous metals.  GPR data collected at this location indicated reinforcing within the concrete.

Anomaly 3: This feature is interpreted to be related to the subsurface utilities present in the area.

Anomaly 4: GPR data collected at this location suggests the possible location of a former monitoring well.

Anomalous Area 1: EM data collected in this area contained medium amplitude responses consistent with subsurface metals and possible debris.

Anomalous Area 2: EM data indicated the presence of ferrous metals in significant quantity within this area.

Anomalous Area 3: EM data collected in this area indicated a roughly square area of slightly elevated readings. It is believed that this feature may be an area of possible prior excavation.

All anomalies and anomalous areas were unearthed and determined to match each of Delta’s findings.
